Well, Miss Sandstone.

She dared to challenge Divine to the title of “Filthiest Person Alive” in Pink Flamingos.

She had one of the screen’s most spectacular breakdowns before becoming an evil despot in the town of Mortville in Desperate Living.

She played Sandra the home-wrecking ‘piece of trash’ in Polyester and poor Dottie Hinkle who was tormented by Kathleen Turner’s Serial Mom. “PUSSYwillows!”

Here, the cult film icon, Mink Stole, offers some advice to Bijou Stories

Mink Stole in “Pink Flamingos”

Mink Stole and John Waters’ Dreamlanders were a huge influence on myself and friend, Paul Elwick, who painted this portrait of her in Pink Flamingos. The Dreamlanders were the stars of John Waters’ early films and like Warhol’s superstars, and Andy Milligan’s troupe of performers they were creative outsiders, bohemians and queers.

The films themselves are most definitely a part of my Bijou Story; from screenings at London’s Scala Cinema to Cookie Mueller’s essential autobiographical book Walking Through Clear Water in a Pool Painted Black.
