Enter a world of tawdry glamour and exquisite melodrama as we explore the aesthetics of the queer underground film-makers of the 1960s. With limited budgets, plenty of make-up and reels of cheap fabrics these pioneering filmmakers used their imaginations to conjure up gloriously camp scenarios that riffed on the cliches of Hollywood.
For one afternoon we will be creating a makeshift studio in a corner of The Rising pub and inviting you to star in a mini-masterpiece produced by My Eyes! My Eyes! And Bijou Stories. Using a series of prompts and the provided set and props you are invited to become an underground Superstar.
Superstar Saturday will be 3rd August 1pm – 5pm at The Rising. Come along and feature in our loving homage to the films of the underground.
Screening Night will be Monday 2nd September at The Rising where we will be screening the film alongside a Kuchar classic. Full details to follow.
