Any Old Iron is the latest project from Avant-Gardening/Bijou Stories and once again invites participants to explore local and cultural histories and to share their own story in a co-created performance. For this project we are looking at popular culture through the tradition of music hall and exploring LGBTQ+ presence in this influential form of entertainment, which later morphed into variety shows and cabaret. Through a programme of fun and highly social workshops including movement and dance, singing, creative writing and filmmaking, participants will create their own performances, either solo or group, which will be featured in the show they will co-create for Greenwich Theatre in the autumn. Our target demographic is primarily older members of the LGBTQ+ community, including those that have lived experience of mental health challenges. But, we also welcome younger people to help create an inter-generational dialogue as we explore the haunted theatre of music hall.
