The Good Pirate is ready for a new adventure, escaping oppression and sharing their stories, both fanciful and real. Join the merry crew on board the Cutty Sark as it takes off on a journey to visit new lands and meet a colourful cast of characters.
Join Bijou Stories as we create a fun new show to be developed, created, and performed with the local LGBTQ+ community. We are particularly keen to work with those over 50+ and those that have lived experience of mental health issues, but all are welcome to join the crew. You do not need to have any previous experience in performance or art as this is a fun, community project where you will work with professionals to realise the stories you want to tell.
The show will be developed through workshops in a range of artforms from creative writing, dance and movement, shadow puppetry, to prop-making, sea shanties and video-making. Participants are welcome to join as many of the workshops as they wish and to take part in writing the script and sharing ideas.
The project will lead to two performanes of The Good Pirate. The first, in September, will be performed on board Greenwich’s iconic Cutty Sark and will tell tales of piracy and the mythology of the sea with a decidedly queer twist.
We will then adapt the show with a few festive tweaks and perform it during panto season at Greenwich Theatre, where this winter’s panto is the classic fantasy pirate tale of Peter Pan.
