Do you want to help make a mental health awareness campaign for, and by, the LGBTQ+ community?
Avant-Gardening CIC/Bijou Stories will be running a number of drop-in sessions where you can help to plan, storyboard, film, or star in a short promo film that signposts mental health services available in the Borough of Greenwich. You do not need to have any experience as the project will be based on informal, friendly sessions with a strong social vibe!
Over the course of the project we will be looking at creative ways of visualising mental health and how it can disproportionally affect the LGBTQ+ community. Using simple camera set-ups and experimental techniques we will produce our own short promotion to raise awareness of mental health issues and the help that can be found in the borough of Greenwich.
The free workshops will be very informal so that participants can take part in as many sessions as they wish. We will also be creating a mutually respectful safe space for all participants so that everyone feels free to share their experiences if they wish.
There will be refreshments available at the sessions.
Four workshops have been programmed so far and these will be co-hosted with performance artist, Caroline Smith, who will be supporting character development as well as assisting with the development of the structure of the video and performing. She will also be introducing concepts of mindfulness to the workshops to help foster a caring and safe space for all participants.
